The book needs better support maps.There is a map at the beginning of multiple routes BUT under each route the reader only gets written directions to the location the author will write about in that section. I think if the author would have invested more effort in map illustration it would to allow the reader to better visualize where these places are located in the back roads of Texas as the author describes them. The map at the beginning is good for getting an overall visual of how far the different routes are from each other however it would have been nice to have a page dedicated to illustrating the route. So be ready to flip back and forth a lot in order to match the written directions for a route with the one map at the beginning of each "Part" (There is a total of 7 parts.) I looked at another book created by this author and a reviewer had a similar criticism regarding map illustration.Now I will say this the author does point out a handful of locations that may peak your interest! For example, the Canadian River Wagon bridge on pg 45 of the book. However, the reader is stuck with creating his/her own map in order to find the bridge. :-(Creating, writing, and publishing a book is a daunting task and I give the author multiple thumbs up for going through this process! However, always try to improve your product regardless of how many stars your friends may give you...I wish the authors much success on the next book. Hopefully map illustrations will be improved on the next project...

I live in the Great State of Texas, and this book gave me some interesting afternoon road trip ideas. Whenever I travel out of state I like to get books like this about the area I plan to be in. One book about the well known points of interest, but also another book about the lesser known ones along the outskirts. This Texas book is good for those back road trips.

Looking for more of a backroads book and is more about regions. Great pictures but felt was not what I was looking for need a better explanation at sale.

This is a great book for those who want to explore areas of Texas not reached by the main Interstate systems. After I read my copy I bought others for my Texas children.

The book was a gift for my husband who doesn't enjoy reading. But this book he loves, he reads a bit everyday, he can't put it down. Five Stars!

It was given as a gift to a Chinese friend so that she'd remember her year-long stay in Texas, and it was appreciated.

Excellent item!

This book added information that other travel books missed. I recommend using it in combination with other books.

If you want to learn how to apply color pencil to metal, this is the book for you, clear, concise, easy to follow and great attainable projects. I give this book 5+++ stars. You won't be disappointed!

Simply wonderful instructions that are clear and easy to follow. Following Mary's lead, I was able to create two beautiful pieces on my first try! She spells out exactly what tools and supplies you need as well as how to best use them. I can't wait to experiment more!

First of all, I have to say that Mary Karg's technique is successful--much more successful than the one Roxan O'Brien outlines in her book, Colored Pencil on Copper Jewelry: Enhance Your Metalwork the Easy Way. The primary difference is the preparation of the substrate. Karg uses a Dremel bit to rough up the copper, then she uses a patina solution to create the substrate surface. O'Brien just sands the copper and paints gesso on. Karg's surface prep is superior; it gives the piece 'tooth' in which to grab and hold the pencil, while O'Brien's makes it highly difficult to develop depth of color. I found O'Brien's method to be frustrating, while Karg's gave me the "AHA!" moment. Thanks Mary!I did find that Karg's book needed a bit of editing and layout help--it looks (and is) self-published. Some of the photos are blurry. Some of the instructions on sequence is unclear and could have used more photos (e.g. do you rivet on the pearl after riveting on the back? Show me clearly how to glue the piece together before riveting.). However, these minor issues do not detract from the major plusses of the book--nice, artistic pieces, very detailed techniques, detailed supply recommendations, etc.If I had to do this over, I would have skipped O'Brien's book and just bought this one. Live and learn.

I've tried coloring copper in the past. The many, many steps and chemicals and baking wore on me. Mary Karg's technique is right up my alley! Easy, quick, no chemicals, no baking! It's awesome! My first piece looks nearly like glass enamels!A fun and different technique! Try it, you really will like it!

This book combines two favorite interests, colored pencil and metal, specifically copper. Mary writes clearly in a conversational style. Her information on tools is excellent and her projects are attractive.The book is self-published so it has some issues that other books don't have: the photos are not sharp, the font is not as comfortable on my eyes, and the spine is blank so finding it in a library will be difficult.

Great book. This is a craft I have not tried before. Once I master a craft I get restless and start looking for something else that will grab my interest. This book popped up in my Amazon reccomendations and caught my attention immediately. Took a chance and ordered. Happy I did. Pictures are clear. Instructions detailed. I'm looking forward to dreaming up my own projects. Oh, and the author is right do yourself a favor and get the best pencils you can afford. This is a lesson I have learned when using colored pencils in my process of making other things. It makes the difference between a finished product that is stunning and one that is pretty much just trashy looking.
