I first used Schmitt as a student myself in 1958. There are many music exercise piano books out there, but no one can beat Schmitt. Students that have played piano for years can not play Schmitt when they have to hold down certain notes while the other fingers play something else. Schnitt teaches the finger to play independently of each other.I have always used Schmitt with my students. Every piano teacher should use this valuable piano tool with their students.

I am an Intermediate adult player and never came across these exercises until I saw them recommended on one of Zach Evans YouRube videos. I was a bit sceptical at first but have found them remarkably helpful. I plan to work my way through all of them. A side benefit was I noticed my ability to read ahead improved too.

This was my first exercise book at 6 years of age. It is still my best exercise book fifty years later. All fingers are given challenges to become stronger as you progress through the book. For those who are returning to playing piano after years of being away or are just starting, this will teach use of independent fingers. Passing along the way I learned, do all exercises evenly slow, first five notes slow with second fast, do the opposite, do all evenly fast. Great for helping the third finger (ring finger) gain strength.

I have been using these exercises as part of my technique drills and practice for only a month and I'm noticing a definite improvement in finger strength, independence, and dexterity. I definitely find the exercises yield good results that more than justify spending time on them. I recommend the exercises in this book. It'll improve you're playing.

I'm a piano teacher and I use this material for my intermediate to advanced students for finger dexity. Highly recommended for teachers.

Picking piano back up after a many year hiatus and this is the perfect thing to loosen things back up - and helps with sight reading also. A few minutes a day and I think I'll be ready to jump back in with some classics. Thank you!

After deciding to start playing after years away from the piano, I picked up Schmitt's exercises to try to knock the dust off my technique faster. I was surprised at how thorough these exercises are! They challenge fingering and technique remarkably well and Schmitt should be compulsory in every piano course.This really stands the test of time and is well worth the financial and time investment.

Perfect exercises to start before getting into the advance Hanon exercises. I recommend these for musicians of all ages and skill levels.

Most of the titles in the Visual Quickstart Guide series that I've acquired have been very useful and "SQL" by Chris Fehily is no exception. I use SQL relatively rarely and this book is an excellent reference and refresher when I need a fast immersion in SQL. The Visual Quickstart Guides teach by - you guessed it - visual examples and this is no exception. Fehily's writing style is spare and direct with few wasted words. There is a somewhat generalized introduction to the nature of SQL. The Introduction is actually a model of what such a chapter should be like. It is direct, to the point and covers the major things, in general, that you need to know about SQL. He then moves deeper into the basics of SQL before advancing on basic SQL operations, such as retrieving data from a table, operators and functions, summarizing and grouping data and so on. Reading this book alone will not make you an expert SQL programmer, but it will certainly help you do more than muddle through basic SQL operations, which generally are all you need. I've had this book on my shelf for a long time and, as I said, when the need for me to deal with SQL arises, it's the first reference I pick up.Jerry

I got this book to get a quick and dirty functional grasp of SQL without drinking the Kool-Aid and delving into database concepts and such. And that's what I got. Unfortunately, it spreads this out over more pages than it really needs to, and lacks a convenient way to reference what it explains without having to flip through unnecessarily long chapters that are more verbose than explanatory. It is not dense or highly technical, there are just a lot of words about concepts that really don't need that many.You don't need much prior experience, just know that databases are a thing, so it would be appropriate for beginners. I don't have a better book to reference offhand, but I would not recommend this for more experienced developers or someone looking to supplement their brain with commands that they do not often use.

I can't rave enough about this book! With a Bachelors in IT in networking, I didn't have much experience in programming save for some menial administration scripting. However, once I started working as a Business Information Analyst for one of America's largest Merchant Services companies, I was told by the Decision Management team leaders that "those who read this book are now managers, and those who didn't read this book don't work here anymore". At that point, I decided to read this book, and I found its reference book style with lots of examples very easy to read and learn from for a beginnner like myself.Literally over night, I was writing simple queries out of the book and practicing them at work. Although, I just received my first full paycheck, I have already worked on multiple projects querying important data off of the company database, which the Partner Sales department uses to generate millions of dollars in revenue on an annual basis.

This book was recommended to me in a class. Purchased for my son who is learning SQL server at his job. One of my go to books.

I recently had to learn SQL on my own. This book is an easy and quick read at a very reasonable price. It covers all the commands that most folks will probably need to do. It also gives examples of the command syntax based on different databases. Now, after doing SQL extensively, I found that there are some commands missing and some of the syntax shown doesn't apply as demonstrated. Overall, this is a very good value and once you have the basics you can GOOGLE the rest.

Using this book now for a class so happy I could get it here.

Excellent book for learning SQL. This little books seems to pack a big punch in everything there is to know about SQL. There are around 200 to 300 sample queries, that start from the basics to nice fancy ones. You will learn about sub setting, functions, grouping, joins, sub queries, set operations, indexes, views, data definition language, and much more. For every topic you will get instructions on how its done in about the five most common SQL implementations.

This book is awesome. It's almost like a recipe book. I keep it handy for using with our company's MS Access menagerie, and it's never let me down. Some of the examples didn't work out of the box, but the clear explanations and cautions for various DBs really helped a lot.

This book is freaking awesome! I loved it. This book has all the feels in it. It is a 5+ stars book. I stayed up until 5 in the morning to finish this book. Then I couldn't go to sleep because I had all this wonderful characters bouncing around in my head. This love story is complicated, but oh so good! I can't wait to read book 2.I went in being neutral on which main character I would like the most. Came away loving them all. I having been dying to get my hands on this book and it was so much more then I anticipated. It is much more complicated and intreguing than your typical love triangle and I am completley blown away by how amazing this book is.This story is a beautifully written and it will grab your attention and hold it right till the very end. This book has angst, passion, drama, emotion and some very sex scenes. The character's are really brought to life and you really feel with them, and at times this story just makes you feel.I am so excited for the next book and I truly recommend reading this one, whether you are already a fan or are new to Ashley Jade, this book is one you are not going to want to miss!

This book was SO d*** good! I just can't. I can't. This book is a mix of frustration and heart, love and lust, but most importantly, it is a book that brings out EVERY emotion you can think possible no matter who reads it! It's not very often you meet characters like Breslin, Asher, and Landon! I lost count of how many times my kindle was thrown, how many times I laughed my a** off, and how many times my heart just got so full I had to stop for a minute to just take in everything these three characters went through. This was my first Ashley Jade book and it will not be my last! Complicated Hearts not only frustrated me like no other, but these characters, this book, this author, stole my heart.

This story complicated me, when I felt like I knew which direction I wanted to go nope Ashley Jade pulled me and twist me in all different directions. She has a way of masterfully throwing you for a loop. It sinks into you deep. I'm totally talking about the mind and heart. Giving each of her characters their own mind and personality as you turn each page you peel off more of their layers. Giving you something raw, gritty and genuine. This story was supernova hot with has you wanting to explore more of this universe. She conveys wholehearted that love is not simple nor is it easy to define. Complicated Hearts expresses the journey to find oneself, what we want and whom we wish to love is not straightforward with easy instructions. Complicated Hearts grabbed me and kept me hooked throughout 5+ from me for this new one from Ashley Jade.I love a book that takes you into the hearts and souls of characters and leaves you in a tail spin of what, wait no they didn't!I am not a big fan of m/m but love a twisted triangle that involves m/f m/m & m/f/m and have read many of these type of stories, what Ashley Jade has wrote is like nothing I have read before the storyline is outstanding and for me is one of my top reads this year.You will love Asher - The A-hole (or so he acts) Landon - The caring musician (But knows how to throw a punch) and Sweet Breslin - The broken girl who is rebuilding herself.No spoilers from me just one click if you want a fresh epic storyline that will deliver hot sex scenes, laughs, emotional dramas and a few shocks!!!!

I enjoyed this book because I would like to study Psychology and become a behavioral analysis. The book's content is easy to understand and right to the point. At some points it becomes repetitive and a little boring but it gives enough information to comprehend for an age group of 16 years or older. The book provided me with a perspective to open my mind up to the world from the minds of different people and to be aware and cautious about the certain things I chose to do. Lastly, this informed me on how to read the personalities of individuals.

The book has great and useful information! The only thing that would need improvement is the writing style.

Horrible presentation very low quality product not worth the price

This is clearly a book for young adults or older kids. As such I find it brilliant in introducing criminal profiling.It never gets in to deep, and the reason for the three star rating is that it doesnt get beyond informing the reader.The book lacks questions for the reader to reflect upon, and though the subject is exciting, it doesnt inspire or challenge the reader.

My daughter is 14 and very interested in criminal psychology. I found this book to be great for her. It is not over detailed but it gives enough information to spark more curiosity about the field and to answer questions that TV shows leave her asking. I am impressed with this book and hope there are more in the series.

I've been an avid reader for over 60 years now, collecting thousands of (primarily) hard cover books written by authors who have impressed me with their story-telling skills, their intelligent plots and sub-plots, their cast of (usually unique) supporting characters, their ability to paint vivid pictures to help immerse me in their stories, their artful presentation of surprising (and sometimes shocking) twists and turns that cause me to reassess and reorganize my thoughts, and the clever use of words and phrases that can cause me to laugh out loud or shed an occasional tear. And it should be easy to see from my first long sentence that my use of "run on" sentences will always prevent me from being a writer.There are actually very few authors whom I have read (and collected) each and every one of their books. Greg Iles is one of them, along with Dennis Lehane, Stephen King, and James Lee Burke. I have enjoyed the works of several other authors over the years and then stopped reading/collecting them because they kept repeating the same formula (which became stale), their characters remained stagnant and failed to grow, or the impact they were once able to shock and surprise you with had disappeared from their writing. It was obvious in a few cases that "ghost writers" had stepped in and continued with their story lines when they were no longer able to write, which simply affirmed the use of formula writing.Greg Iles doesn't stand still. He continues to provide intelligent and well-researched stories that are grounded in the history of the Deep South. He doesn't paint a pretty picture with southern ladies and gentlemen, antebellum mansions, garden parties, and good-old-boy politicians. Instead Mr.Iles talks about the problems of the Deep South; the history of slavery, the Ku Klux Klan, the inequality of races, miscegenation, and various hold-outs of people who keep a grip on the old ways even today. His writing is gritty and realistic, impressive and depressing at the same time, and allows his readers to really understand what has happened over the past 150 years. He presents these historic events with passion and insight, excusing few for their actions and holding many accountable for perpetuating barbaric practices.After having passed through many generations, it is surprising that so many people continue to discriminate against those who were granted freedom from their owners so long ago. Mr. Iles writing periodically points out the places where water fountains had signs on them stating "Whites Only", back doors to stores had empty spaces on them where signs once read "Colored Entrance", and inhumane prisons often held minor offenders for the rest of their lives. It is not a pretty picture but instead points out the realities of racism that others would just as soon forget. It is ugly, it is brutal, and it is amazing that so few managed to take advantage of so many for such a long time. This particular book is not for the faint of heart. No punches are pulled, no words are minced, no stone goes unturned. Be prepared, be warned, and expect to learn some historical truths without any sugar-coating.,This is easily a stand-alone novel not requiring the reading of the previous two books in the trilogy. HOWEVER, you will miss two powerful novels that set the stage for the end of this book -- and I wouldn't want you to miss any of its impact.

Spoiler alerts! I began reading the reviews today after I finished the book last night...hoping I suppose for a bit more insight into what devoted readers feel about this work. As a whole the Natchez Burning trilogy has been one of the most enjoyable things I have ever read....I give it 5 stars without any doubt. The plot of this series and its characters are both amazing and well presented for the most part. The first two books painted a very vivid picture and contained story-lines, settings, and characters that absolutely hooked me. Mississippi Blood promised to be the conclusion to all of the lingering questions. While I enjoyed this book greatly, I exit the theater a bit underwhelmed, still needing important questions answered. For example, the JFK assassination angle that was so interesting in The Bone Tree (and Natchez Burning to an extent) was all but left to wither away and die in Mississippi Blood. So many important questions and events ended with a whimper in this final book in my opinion. In many ways it feels like too many important topics and story lines were rushed to a conclusion....like Iles just wanted to get it over with. I thought The Bone Tree was done well and it ended with a satisfying (sad, but still satisfying) experience in terms of entertainment....the death of Caitlin at the mystical Bone Tree itself, the titanic battle between Forrest and Penn at mysterious Valhalla, the meat to the JFK angle, etc. Mississippi Blood promised to be the epic conclusion to a classic Southern style Greek tragedy.....instead it is just a conclusion....not epic, and not really classic. Characters like Keisha and her brothers disappeared with little or no explanation. Most especially Serenity Butler played an important role for the majority of Mississippi Blood but silently exited the stage in a way that does not agree with the power of her character. Even the death of Snake Knox was lackluster compared to that of Forrest, Brody, Henry, Alois, (and even Frank)...especially given the huge role he played in this series....plus I kept waiting for him to not really be dead....how he 'died' was circumstantial, requiring you to draw that conclusion. The possible angel of conclusion offered by Wilma Deen was briefly introduced, then promptly yanked away....the potential for any remaining Double Eagles to confess their sins went away without conclusion. The work of Kaiser continues on into the mist without any real knowledge to the reader of where it is going. The audio tape that Lincoln had featuring Snake, Viola, and Sonny also disappeared...yes, he said he was going to destroy it without the million dollars, but did he? After getting to know Lincoln better toward the end, I highly doubt that he destroyed it, but again....the question remains. What of the VK? Which biker died in the shack at the end? What happened to Toons, Lars, etc.? The brief letter from Billy Knox at the end was a bit odd...not really fitting into the murderous rampage type of capabilities that the Knox clan was known for over 2000 previously written pages in this trilogy. Sheriff Billy Byrd simply being taken into custody over the course of a few postscript sentences is vastly underwhelming given his level of deceit in the trilogy as a whole. Tom Cage still sits in prison despite being not-guilty (we think he is not guilty anyway)....that question about who REALLY killed Viola (what this entire trilogy was based upon) was not really answered without any doubt. Was it Peggy? Was it Lincoln? Was it Snake? Sonny? Too many important questions have been allowed to linger...which is somewhat shameful. I would not have had any complaints if this novel were 800-1000 pages long.....if that is what it took to truly wrap things up. As it stands now, I understand it is over, but I do not have the sense of closure I wanted when I opened this book for the first time in late March. Perhaps another Penn Cage story awaits us...I don't know. What I do know is that I still have important questions remaining and that is not how a trilogy of this magnitude is supposed to end.

I'.ve been( patiently ?)waiting for the conclusion of this trilogy, but I believe it was worth it Iles characterizations are such that I feel like if I ran into them on the street I could start an immediate discussion. I do feel like this one ran a little long as the author took forever to peel the world's largest literary onion. Although usually very accurate about legal matters; "the trial" in this book had enough procedural errors to get any verdict overturned multiple times. I find his views of Mississippi and the south really interesting and educational. I find myself hoping to visit Natchez and The Natchez Trace before too long. This series in general and this book in particular have one of the longest and most intricate plots I have seen

A number of friends had praised its teachings on evolution, and that Christmas a girlfriend gave it to me. I was surprised at its daunting size: 2,097 pages long. What confounded me the most was that the book contained 875 pages on the life and teachings of Jesus, including the missing years. How strange and intriguing, I thought. Dinosaurs and Jesus all in one text.Initially, I found the foreword to The Urantia Book utterly confusing but kept reading anyway. What followed was a fascinating intellectual and spiritual adventure that shook up everything I thought I knew. The first two parts of the book describe God, the Trinity, the organization and structure of the universe, life on other worlds, life after death, angels and other personalities, and Heaven. When I read Part Three, it was like winning the lottery for me. This section deals with the origin and history of our world, starting from the origin of our sun over six billion years ago and ending with the birth of Jesus. From ice ages to saber tooth tigers, from the first human family to the evolution of modern government, from the story of Adam and Eve to the birth of prayer, The Urantia Book presented a logical story of physical and social evolution. It was the logical and smart bridge between science and religion that I had been searching for.The fourth section of the book is the most important Jesus book since the Bible. It recounts the magnificent life and teachings of Jesus. Before I read The Urantia Book, I loved the story of Jesus in the New Testament, but always felt disappointed that it only covered a few years of his life. Being born to a Christian mother, raised by a non-conformist Jewish father, and having spent two years in a Catholic monastery, my smorgasbord of religious education had taught me to question everything. How did the idea that he was the only son of God relate to Moses, Buddha and other prophets? And if you were born in India and never heard of Jesus would you really go to “hell?” So, when I read the section about Jesus, I was profoundly moved; Jesus, the human being as well as the Son of God, came alive in the most superbly written biographical literature that I have ever come across. In addition to reframing Jesus for me, it made me far more respectful and appreciative of my childhood training in both Judaism and Christianity.Simply put, Part Four transformed my life from one of doubt to one of faith, from one of insecurity to one of trust in God—with Jesus as the lens in which God becomes visible. As a spiritual adventurer, I was thrilled that the Jesus of The Urantia Book built upon the Bible, and then took me a hundred miles further.The Urantia Book changed three major things inside me. First, it made me examine my values and commit myself to doing something worthwhile with my life.Second, the book instilled the importance of family. A line in the book says, “The family is man's greatest purely human achievement.” Everything I have done since reading The Urantia Book has been influenced by my decision to put my family first.The third and most valuable thing that The Urantia Book did for me was to make God real. Experiencing God as a loving Father and tangible inside of me and inside of you, and not just some kind of wispy spirit or force, was pivotal for me. This reality has shaped every single day of my life since that time.When I first heard people discussing The Urantia Book, they said it was a revelation, written not by human beings, but by angels. I thought was just the goofiest thing I’d ever heard. I ended up reading it in spite of its purported origins. After I read it, it became less relevant to me who had written it or how it was written because it was so powerful. I’d wanted bold; I found bold. I’d wanted spiritual adventure and I was on the ride of my life. I’d wanted truth and the book was loaded with it. Since that time, I have looked into it deeply and I cannot find any author associated with the book. But it doesn’t matter to me because I love what it says and I’m a much better person because of its teachings. I’ve learned not to pick fights with the books I read—I’m appreciative and I grow from them.
